High school students can spend upwards of 35 hours in school every week. In a traditional classroom, that can mean hours of using potentially uncomfortable desks and chairs. The students and classrooms of today are different from 10 or 20 years ago. Our world is changing, as are our students’ needs. Having flexible seating in our classroom will allow students to freely choose and adapt their own learning environment. This will make them feel more comfortable, valued, and motivated in our classroom. Students learn in a variety of different ways. Some students are more productive when they have time and space to move around while other students may feel more comfortable in a more independent and controlled environment. For these reasons and more, we are committed to moving away from the traditional desk and chair, and opening the classroom to a variety of spaces. We strongly believe switching to flexible seating will increase student engagement in our classroom. This money will help us provide a positive classroom atmosphere and will allow students to create their own work environment that best suits them and which enables them to be focused and engaged in their work.
