My students are English Language Learners who are in need of a class set of dictionaries to help them. I am promoting dictionary skills as a way to increase their English vocabulary, but lack the number of dictionaries to make sure each student has one. Students will be using these dictionaries daily both in small groups to look up definitions for weekly vocabulary and independently as they read. My students are on need of high interest books at a variety or levels to capture their imagination and snags their interest in reading. Both non-fiction and fiction chapter books and graphic novels are very popular with my fifth graders. My students will use these books daily during independent reading time. They will also use these books during writing time when we do reading response writing.
