We have some incredible readers at our school who deserve a little prize to keep their enthusiasm up. At our school we use a program called Accelerated Reader. This is a way for the students to read books and then take quizzes to test their comprehension. If they pass the quiz the system records the amount of words in that book. This information is saved and adds up over the year. As the students read more, and get more words, they reach classroom goals. We like to reward these students who are trying really hard and make these goals. Every time they reach a new goal, we would be giving them another prize. So, for the first goal met they might get a pencil. For the second goal, a bracelet. The third goal will be a treasure chest toy. After a certain number of prizes, they get a ticket redeemable for an extra book checkout in the library. The students respond very well to this, and get very excited to see how many goals they can meet.
