As a speech-language pathologist at Washington Center, my role is to help our students with severe to profound disabilities communicate. Most of our students are not able to use thier voices to speak words, but they have much to say! I use a combination of objects, pictures, and technology such as iPads to provide opportunities for non-verbal communication. Choosing powerful words is important for our students. Our students learn to meet their basic needs by touching or looking at symbols for words including: eat, drink, help, want, like and many more. It is so rewarding to see a student engage in successful communication to meet their basic wants and needs!

About my class
