My 3rd graders come from varied backgrounds and many of them struggle with focusing when it comes to learning. Some because they have conditions such as ADD/ADHD or a learning disabilities and others because of things going on in their home lives that interfere with learning. I would like to help all my students no matter what their situation optimize their learning through the use of flexible seating. Having the option to sit in a position that they are comfortable in can help them focus better has shown to improve student learning. I want my classroom to be a welcoming and inviting place for my students and I believe the flexible seating choices will do that. I chose rockers, stability balls and wobble seats for ones who like more "motion" through the day. I chose a comfy couch for a more home-like atmosphere. For those that like to be closer to the ground, I chose some yoga mats. I also requested foam kneeboards for those that don't wish to sit, yet don't want to stand. I feel I have chosen a nice variety to get started in implementing flexible seating in my classroom.
