I teach all kinds of readers, and I've interacted with them enough to know what they like. Most of them are either huge fans of Young Adult Fiction already or become fans when they start reading this kind of material. Books like the Hunger Games, The Maze Runner, and Divergent are always hits. One of my two most important jobs as an English teacher is helping kids become better readers. The other one, of course, is helping them become better writers. I firmly believe that the best writers ARE avid readers, and I'm also convinced that the best way to get better at something is to do it--a lot. By providing my students with books that they will love to read, I'll be giving them something to do besides playing on their phones when they finish their other assignments.
