A large area rug would give my students a comfortable place to sit as we have class meetings and story time. My students love to move around and sit in different spots around the room. Storytelling is a big part of the Southern culture. I try to build on that in our classroom by bringing in guest readers and by making storytelling a part of each day. Young children need movement as well as structure. I believe that giving them a place to gather them close while sharing a story would greatly improve their listening, and would compliment the family environment of the class.
