Simply put, our students are awesome! We teach in an urban middle school that features an environmental focus. Our curriculum teaches students about the interconnectedness of the physical and human environments. Thus, they are encouraged to learn through active learning experiences and are involved in service learning projects centered around environmental themes. This has made them incredibly aware and caring about the environment. Our school has also adopted the Responsive Classroom model, which teaches that the social curriculum is just as important as the academic one. We teach our children cooperation, assertion, responsibility, empathy, and self control, and, as a result, my students truly care about and are kind to one another. They are accepting of each other's learning differences and have grown to value the diversity of our student body.
