I teache a kindergarten-first grade special day class for students with moderate-severe disabilities. Our school is located in a low income urban neighborhood. Our school has been threatened to be shut down over the past few years due to low enrollment and test scores. The school has remained open however, due to the great community effort of the staff, students and families of our school. Our school is proving it's potential with increased enrollment, improved test scores and dedicated teachers, staff and families. My students face a number of physical, cognitive and emotional disabilities but come to school with smiles on their faces ready to learn. I feel lucky to be able to work with such great students and families and look forward to coming to work for them.
