The students that my 2nd grade teammate and I serve range from students who have just turned 7, to those who are already almost nine. Even in a short number of years, the students' needs and interests are very different. Not only are they a range of ages in this grade, but they also have different reading levels, backgrounds, and experiences that have shaped the reader that they are today. Just as each student deserves individualized instruction, they deserve books that meet each of their individual needs. What is the perfect book for one student may be too difficult for another, and as your child’s teachers we have a duty to serve all of the students who enter our classrooms. The students that enter our rooms deserve books that speak to each of them and meet all of their diverse needs.
