My students want to read high-interest level books; however, due to the size of my classroom library and our school library, there are not many selections. I want to instill in them the love of reading and I believe if they read books of interest, this will occur. Students may check out these classroom books and read at home. They can even read aloud to family members, including younger siblings, in order to improve their reading skills. Studies show that students who read on a regular basis perform better on standardized tests and ultimately achieve more. I give my students time in class to read independently.
