My kindergarten students will learn better and easier if they have access to the magnetic ten frames and the architectural and engineering resources I would like to get for my class. For instance, I am planning to use the jumbo magnetic ten frames with the magnetic counters as a visual and interactive tool to teach students number concepts, such as quantity, cardinality, comparing numbers, composing and decomposing numbers to 10, addition and subtraction to ten, etc. Students will use the individual ten frame magnetic answer boards when participating in different whole group, small group, learning centers or independent activities to show their understanding, and as a strategy used to solve grade level math problems. These resources will help students learn not only math skills, but also, STEM skills through hands on experiences while playing, cooperating and working together, or just working independently. Students will be very motivated and engaged using the Architects Design Blocks and the Design and Building Centers. They can look real designs of buildings, towers, bridges, cars, etc., or they can create their own. I am planning to use the Design and Building centers during stations and whenever the weather won't let us go outside for recess. My students will love to spend indoor recess time during rainy days, playing and learning with these manipulatives in the classroom. I can also use them for science lessons. Lastly, these manipulatives will also help students to develop and strengthen fine motor skills needed to improve their handwriting skills.
