My students are as varied as the countries where Spanish is spoken. Some grew up in the same neighborhood as the school and others have moved over a thousand miles to the United States as recently as last month. Some of them come from big cities and others moved from a small town on a Caribbean island. One of my goals is for them to feel comfortable with the situation and the city where they now find themselves. Some are shy and some are very outgoing and need no encouragement to begin a conversation. One focus of the school that my students attend is to prepare them for college and to be leaders in their community and be aware of global issues. A great thing about teaching a world language is that every day we are looking outside the four walls of the school and wanting to see something of what the world is really like.
