We may be a small school, but we have big ideas! Our project will benefit all grade levels and will have a positive impact on each student. Once testing starts in the spring, it is beyond challenging to find any time in the computer lab for our students to gain experience with technology. A pod of Chromebooks would provide a technology resource to small groups of students in my classroom. As a bonus, my students could delve deeper into projects in one sitting having access to computers for times longer than 30-minute blocks. The computer lab is heavily used by all of the classes on campus, scheduled most days, and there are not enough computers for a couple of our larger classes for each student to work individually. I hope to teach numerous students life skills including: basic typing, computer fluency, and communicating digitally beyond social media. Losing access for 3-4 months each school year is challenging. We want students to have positive experiences with computers and not always associate “technology” with testing. Many of our students live outside of town and internet service is slow or not existent. Moreover, many families in our attendance area cannot afford the luxuries of internet service or computers. We would like to give our students access to computers, keyboarding, programs, internet, research and technology for all ten months of the school year.
