As a special education teacher, my job is to provide the supports needed to help my children achieve the same success in the classroom as their regular education peers. Difficulty reading is one of the more common disabilities served in special education. In order for my students to complete the same coursework and tests that regular education students do, I often use headphones so they can hear textbooks or test questions, as well as read them. Hearing the words as they read strengthens reading fluency and retention, and allows my students to be exposed to the same curriculum as their peers. Special education students want to succeed in class just as much as their peers. They just need a little accommodation to make that happen. That is why I am requesting 2 sets of inexpensive headphones to be used by special education students in the regular education classroom to access digital textbooks, library books, and tests.
