The school offers the Dual Language program to provide students the opportunity to become literate in a second language. My classroom participates in this program with an enrollment of 36 students. The classes are comprised of native English and Spanish speaking students. As part of our dual-language program, the students spend 90 minutes of the school day in my classroom where they receive daily instruction in Spanish. They spend an additional 90 minutes in another classroom, where they receive instruction in English. The school approach to second language acquisition education provides students with the opportunity to become fully bilingual by learning listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English and the target language, which is Spanish. Our students take pride in learning to speak Spanish and to be able to interact with, learn, and appreciate another culture.
