My students are in small classes (8-10 maximum). They are expected to be 21st century students but have a shortage of devices to help them access 21st century curricula. With a group of Chromebooks, we will be able to create more interative lesson plans and activities that will allow them to do all of the following: attend virtual field trips, research ideas and facts, teach themselves and peers, interact with the questions that are being put to them, make their own questions. (I wish I could say that they all have a phone or other personal device, but I cannot.) For this reason, they need and deserve to be able to join their peers around the state...country...world in accessing online resources daily versus when some devices can be "spared" for their use. Additionally, my students demonstrate less behavioral issues in the classroom and with their peers, the more engaged in their lessons they are. New technology will help my students be better students and citizens of the school and in the community. Being able to really provide a 21st century learning experience for the students in my program will benefit them in the present and in the future. They will leave our classrooms with skills they might not have otherwise learned and developed. Others will learn simpler tasks like how to read and write better, enough to gain competitive employment later in life. I just want to be able to give them the chance they deserve!
