Reading literature that makes students think and engage in discussions of issues that are relevant and worthwhile are proven ways of motivating students in the language arts classroom. My students need access to copies of To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. This is literature that will challenge their thinking and better prepare them for the rigorous literature that they will encounter in high school. Students need opportunities like these to have real books, classic books, in their hands so they can be read, analyzed and discussed. Please consider making a difference in this group of students' lives by giving them access to a classic piece of literature.
