Wiggle Stools and floor seats will help create a comfortable and functional way for my students to work comfortably in my classroom. According to a study by the University of Minnesota, student engagement can increase as much as 48%, when students have flexible seating options. When a class is visually appealing, students WANT to learn in that setting. When a classroom is cluttered, disorganized, and visually overwhelming, students (especially those who show signs of ADD, ADHD, and Autism), will have trouble focusing because they are over stimulated by their environment. When everything has a "home", the classroom setting can be a lot more organized and productivity increases. A weighted blanket would be placed in my "Safe Place". A Safe Place is an area in the room where students can go to reflect and cope with emotions, frustrations, and anxieties. It has sensory tools, breathing strategies, and cozy items to help the students feel comforted and get back to their learning. A weighted blanket is a great tool for students who have high anxiety. It helps calm them when they feel overwhelmed or overstimulated. A weighted blanket would be a great addition to my Safe Place.
