My students are a diverse, energetic, and challenging group of high schoolers from the least desirable zip codes in San Francisco. Ninety percent of the students are either foreign born or first generation children of immigrants from Asia, the Pacific Islands, Central America, and other countries. Ninety percent are minorities. Seventy-seven percent are economically disadvantaged. Computer-based work consistently provides an engaging and useful supplement to the rote practice of reading and speaking a foreign language. Chromebooks and headphones IN my classroom (not downstairs) will make computer-based learning a frequent if not daily practice and assessment of learning much more efficient.
