My students will benefit from having creative ways to fuel their love of reading and STEM. They will spread that flame throughout our school and classroom community. This project will provide students with innovative technology based applications to traditional school tasks, which is especially useful for students who are learning English (ELL). These products will also increase their enthusiasm and provide forward thinking methods on previously tedious tasks. The iPad has many uses in the classroom, but we are most excited about having an Osmo. This tool provides hands-on technology that helps students spell with a programs called Words. A picture is displayed on the screen and students then spell the word. This is so beneficial for ELL students to make a visual connection to the word. In addition to words, students can compute math problems by placing number tiles in front of the camera and are immediately checked for accuracy. Another exciting Osmo feature is the ability to teach students to code which has become an in demand career field. Students are especially eager to learn when they have fun tools!
