I teach in a small middle school in Flint Michigan. Our middle school just reopened so the school is in the process of building an identity and community with the students. We serve students from all over the city. The majority of our students are African American and most students qualify for free or reduced lunch. This brand new middle school is tackling the challenges of Flint Michigan head on with innovative and holistic approaches to enriching the child, and I am excited to make my classroom as inviting and enriching for students as I can. I focus on personalized instruction, culturally relevant reading materials, and a wide berth of vocabulary building activities to get all students to grade level and beyond.
