Enrique's Journey and Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian are two modern books that students can relate to. Both of these titles are well written and for some, provide an entry point into reading as a hobby. I need books that can capture my students' attention and not let go. I compete with so much for my students attention: social media, media, and life... I want to foster a lifelong love of learning in my classroom. Part of being a learner is being a reader. I have students who tell me straight away, "I don't read." I can not accept this from a young person.
