My classroom is full of delightful students. Each child has their own talents and challenges. I have seen a marked decrease in reading scores and an increase in social and emotional struggles due to the word wide pandemic. In order to meet my unique students needs and increase academic and student wellbeing I would like to provide a variety of flexible seating options to my classroom. Research involving these seating options (bean bags, stability discs, and bouncy desk bands) has shown an increase in student focus and drive. My students that have ADHS, Autism, and Anxiety will have the opportunity to choose seating that meets their specific needs. Additional books added to my library as well as reading manipulatives (mirrors, and magnetic bingo chips/wands) will help me to provide hands on reading instruction and interventions to all of my students, but more particularly students that are reading below grade level. We are focusing on manipulating, replacing, and reversing phonemes with bingo chips. My students use mirrors to learn correct mouth and tongue placements when learning vowel and consonant phonemes. Making sure that my students have solid phonemic awareness and comprehension is paramount. As we increase the use of technology and computers the addition of a class set of over the ear headphones will aid my students in learning in this way as well as improve focus by cancelling out some of the distractions and noise. My students can also use the headphones at home to help them focus and have the correct technology to be successful online students as the need arises.
