By adding exciting new books into our classroom library, these third grade readers, of all reading levels, can deepen their love of literature and be exposed to many different genres of writing. By having a variety of books to choose from, students will take their reading into their own hands by choosing books they feel connected to and can escape into. In addition to books, I also have comfortable seats such as beanbags and floor chairs included in my project. I believe that having the option of flexible seating in my room will encourage all my students to get excited to read. I also want my students to be comfortable and relaxed as they read independently. As an adult who loves to read, I rarely choose a desk and hard chair to sit in when I want to sink into a good book. Why would a third grader be any different? My hope for this project is that I want the students in my class to use reading as a way to experience people, perspectives and places from all around the world, real and fictional, past and present. My dream for them is to leave third grade having the secure knowledge that no matter what challenges they face moving forward, they always can rely on their imagination and curiosity to keep them inspired and hopeful. I believe that having a genuine love of reading is best way to accomplish this dream.
