My students will benefit from having computer access during our counseling sessions to explore their career interests as well post graduate options. It provides them the opportunity to view different college websites and requirements to apply early on, so that they will be fully prepared during their senior year. Students in a low socioeconomic environment struggle to have access to resources and technology at home and benefit tremendously from what can be provided in their school setting. In addition, working with students with disabilities and mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression, it is critical that I provide them with strategies and resources during our sessions in order to better ensure that their transition to college can go more smoothly and be less stressful. Having a laptop in counseling allows more opportunity to do that as we can view videos, search topics and work in the moment as concerns arise.
