Students in primary grades are busy people. They not only participate in whole group instruction, but work individually, on teams, or as partners. The picture shows two students working on a robotics project on the floor. Often the most comfortable place to exchange ideas and work on projects for a student, is on the floor! Having a table to sit at is great, however, young learners need space and a variety of work environments. Having classroom rugs will provide a second work space for students. Having defined work space on a rug not only provides comfort, but supports exploration and communication among young learners.
