I have some students that comprehend better when they have pictures to support the words. The illustrated Harry Potter books in this project will allow those students who want to read Harry Potter to be able to make meaning of their reading. For the nonfiction book selection, I made sure to choose topics and people that my students are interested in as well as topics that align with our Georgia history and science standards. These books will be supplemental curriculum supports along with free reads in the library. I also picked culturally diverse books in this selection in order for my students to experience life outside of their bubble and to become more culturally responsive.
