I am an enthusiastic fan of Scholastic News. It is an "an award-winning cross-curricular magazine" that helps build "nonfiction-reading skills, increase content-area knowledge and inspire a love a reading." Sitting down to read together with my students is always delightful and the best part of my day. I have found that students are captivated when they are able to have and hold their very own newspapers, and I can make this time extra special by allowing them flexible seating while using their clipboards. Spending time together reading interesting science and social studies articles while learning to read graphs, identify text features, locate text evidence, and building stronger readers are just a few of the advantages of having Scholastic News in the classroom!
