I currently teach in a 3rd and 4th grade special education class in a low income community. Every child has something to teach us all, and I enjoy learning from them. I LOVE teaching my students different math strategies, this will give them the confidence they need to try and solve problems. They learn not to give up. Since I differentiate my teaching I have to place my students in groups. I always have either one or two groups working independently. That is when these math manipulative will come in place. They can also be used during whole group instruction. Students will independently work using these manipulative to review the skills they have learned and will master. The hands on experience will keep their interested on track and the support it provides will help them with solving the problem and it will keep them motivated to either complete or try to answer the problem.
