The students in my class are working towards meeting the beginning of second grade standards. Half of my class is reading at a kindergarten reading level or below a kindergarten reading level. There is little to no support at home. Families are working, and/or they do not have the ability to help support their student. The majority of my students' support comes from their experiences within the classroom. As a teacher, I look to expand my library to help my students. For my 1st grade class, my goal is to get high quality just right books in their hands. Being a high poverty school these students do not get the chance to go to public libraries to access great books.
