Our students need games and activities that give them a well deserved break from all the amazing things they're being taught. Games like connect four, jenga, and checkers will help sharpen their minds. These games will teach strategy and show that it helps to pay attention! The bean bag toss can be played as a 2 person team which will teach teamwork and get them a little active. Volleyball is definitely a team, (teamwork), sport and will get some a lot of energy out. I know boys and girls would love to take turns throwing a football through a target. Sign me up for that! Hoola hoops and a tossing game can get their bodies in motion for sure! The donations for our playground will help improve the moral and fun our students have at recess. I spent the summer buying all new sand toys, (buckets, ice cream scoops, strainer, cake pans, etc...), and small toys that I bury for them to find. It has been a huge hit with our Pre-K through 3rd grade. However, the upper grades, 4th through 6th, are not interested in "digging for treasure." There are about 20-30 boys who play with or toss around the football, but the rest of the upper grades just wander around looking bored. That's not the recess I remember as a child. We ran, we played, we had swings, teeter totters, and merry-go-rounds. We played Red Rover, Crack the Whip, and many other games that are now deemed "too dangerous." Our kids need games that can get them moving, thinking, and building friendships. With the games and activities chosen, they'll also be learning about team work. I truly believe all these things are essential building blocks for kids and will help on into adulthood. Thank you!
