Blocks provide a hands-on learning opportunity that encourage fine and gross motor, social-emotional, language, physical and intellectual development. They are a critical piece that is missing in my kindergarten classroom. Many of the benefits block play provide are problem solving skills, friendship building, increasing attention span, negotiating, and team building skills. Blocks are one of the most valuable learning experiences for young children. Blocks encompass everything we ask a student to be in one activity. The addition of blocks in my classroom will be one more piece to ensuring my students meet the rigor of our academic standards in a fun and developmentally appropriate way. We can never lose sight that our students learn through play. I would like to provide every opportunity for my students to succeed, and I know with the addition of blocks, my students will thrive!
