I have requested two storage units and bins to hold books, an area rug, pillows, cushions, and material to make padded bench seats for a cozy reading corner. Our school uses Lexile leveled books in our classroom libraries. Our students take a test to get their exact Lexile level which helps us choose "just right" books for them to read. This system helps alleviate some frustration of students picking books that are too challenging or not challenging enough. By having an organized and inviting reading area, students will be eager to curl up with a good book for an exciting adventure. As an adult, I see reading as a way to relax. I often wish I had more time to get lost in a book. During the day, I am able to provide my students with appropriate books and the time to read. While there are so many reasons reading can benefit students academically, I hope to give them the opportunity to use reading as a way to relax in our ever changing, fast paced world.
