So often, I find that my students need to see information presented in several different formats during our math lesson. As an educator, I try to implement learning activities that speak to the visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learner. Often, I find that videos work extremely well for my struggling learner, especially those found on Khan Academy. The weakness that I find in these videos, however, is that they do not necessarily align with the Virginia Standards of Learning for mathematics. While showing my class a video during instruction or centers, I find myself saying, "Okay, ignore this part!" In order to combine the power that videos, such as those from Khan Academy, with the curriculum I'm teaching, I would like to create my own videos, using Camtasia software and a tablet. I am an extremely tech savvy person, and so much of the technology needed for such an endeavor is already within my reach, such as a high quality microphone, a workstation with several monitors, and technical know-how. These few items I'm asking for are all that stand between me and providing my students with high-quality, curriculum-aligned videos. In addition to use in the classroom, these videos will be posted in our Google Classrooms to benefit those students who are frequently absent, or who cannot be in the classroom for any reason. These videos will also be shared with other Virginia educators in an effort to help all students succeed. Finally, the tablet will also be used to create diagrams and notes that can be inserted into my students' interactive notebooks. While word processing programs do a great job with this, they can only do so much. This tablet will allow me to create note sheets and worksheets that look more like what students would write on their own.
