The camera and equipment I am requesting are to provide my Panther News Network (PNN) students with the materials necessary to create the best news show possible! Approximately 6 years ago, the county school system split our high school into 2 schools. One school housing grades 10-12 on a new campus, and another housing grade 9 on the old high school campus. The division of schools caused some staffing issues thus causing the PNN class to no longer be an option for ninth grade students. This year for the first time in a long time, ninth grade students are able to broadcast news to their peers. PNN provides news for students, by students. The news program is completely written, reported, filmed, and edited by students. The current equipment being used by our PNN staff is shared with our junior high feeder school's program. Basically, we have 1 camera to cover stories on 2 campuses with a total combined enrollment of over 1500 students. Due to the program at my school being in its infancy we have no funding available to us to make improvements. Our show will be used to teach our PNN students the fundamentals of news broadcasting as well as educating our student body on both local and national news. PNN will be broadcast in our student lounge as well as available for anytime viewing on Youtube.
