In kindergarten, free play is a vital part of learning. With so much curriculum being pushed earlier and earlier, I try to have a half hour of centers: some play and some educational. The students rotate through these centers throughout the week. Our block area is lacking in materials to be creative and imaginative when playing and building. We have waffle blocks and Lincoln logs, but no actual blocks for building and creating independently. With a set of block area materials, I believe my students will be able to open up more to their creativity during play. It will also help students with working cooperatively with others as well as solving any conflicts they may run into with other students.
