Our students have been studying structure and function of cells as well as interdependent relationships within an ecosystem. Prior to this lab experience, students will research about local ecosystems and biodiversity in order to build their knowledge. Through this lab, students will explore first-hand how organisms and populations of organisms are dependent on their environmental interactions both with other living things and with nonliving factors. Students will dissect a common market squid in order to explore both external and internal anatomy, while discovering the structural and behavioral adaptations that enable squid to live in the open ocean environment. As part of a larger PBL project, students will use the data they gather to provide a short presentation on how anatomy and potential environmental factors influence behavior within an ecosystem.
