These materials will help our classroom meet its technology needs on a daily basis (instead of relying on a rotating laptop cart for short daily uses) Our classroom for English 1 is set up as station learning; so students rotate each day after lecture to a learning station that is essential to their success (research lab, college area, novel based learning, grammar and vocabulary essentials, informational reading). The purpose of this circuit learning is to curb behavioral problems, increase group work and collaborative thinking, influence students who are generally shy to speak up (and also to help those who may take the lead too much), and to help accommodate students with extra needs. Technology is key for this style of classroom to be a success These technology stations will be centers for research, studying, and for my students to have a creative outlet. We need these ten Chromebooks because although our English department has a laptop cart, there is no way to have access to it on a daily basis (sometimes even a weekly basis). Also many of the laptops are outdated, cannot hold a charge, and some even have missing keys. I have tried to use cellphones as a tool for students, but it is too hard to monitor 33-38 students on their phones. There is also no way to teach MLA/Chicago style and essential paper writing skills on phones. Having a group of laptops that students work independently with will help ensure students are staying focused and learning the necessary skills they should have to succeed in not only my English class, but classes for the rest of the their high school/college careers. For group projects, 10 Chromebooks would ensure each group has access to the internet and resources for research.
