As we are in an English classroom, we read many texts. I choose texts, such as The Diary of Anne Frank and I Am Malala, that resonate with students. My students can relate to the characters in these texts. I have many students draw me pictures of scenes from the text and they want the opportunity for more creativity in this area. Together, we decided to create a classroom environment where creativity thrives through artwork and reading. I want to provide my students the chance to paint the ceiling tiles in our classroom so they can leave a lasting impact on our school. As 8th graders, this is really important to them. In addition, we will be painting characters and scenes from books we have read this year, which will also help engage students in our course material. In order to paint these scenes and characters, they will have to have extensive knowledge about the text. My students rarely get opportunities to be completely creative in this way during school (outside of electives) so we are excited about the possibility! As my students primarily come from low income households, they cannot afford their own paints and supplies. Therefore, we appreciate your help in making our dream come true!
