Sherlock Holmes creates the intrigue of forensics for adults of many ages and students are not any different. We learned in forensics class that the Sherlock Holmes stories actually had a huge impact on the forensics field which intrigued the students into learning more about him. Class started with the history of forensics and watching the series Sherlock on Netflix to discuss the possible merits of Arthur Conan Doyle's story on history. This led to the students being interested in how Doyle developed the stories of Sherlock Holmes using forensics, how he impacted the field of study, and how books like "A Study in Scarlet" are being used in the 21st century. We will be reading the book "A Study in Scarlet" which is one of Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes novels (and what the first season of Sherlock is based on) and creating projects that analyze the story and show to the field of study that is forensics and how Doyle researched to develop this years ago. They will be creating projects that will be posted in the school to help inform the general population of the school on the field of forensics and its development. Not only will this book help with the science of forensics but it will also be helping to improve our literacy and reading in the school which will prepare students for college.
