Having classroom supplies for all students is a priority in the classroom. At our school, students come and go throughout the year as we educate the students whose families live and work at the migrant camp across the street. I want the students that come part way though the year to walk into a fully stocked classroom so that they have everything they need. We are entering our fourth week of school and many of my students still do not have basic supplies. I want them to feel as though they have what they need as soon as the enter our classroom door. For this reason, I have included basic supplies such as pencils, dry erase makers, and colored pencils. Since we have tables instead of desks, I have also put five supplies caddies on the list so that students have an easily accessible place to store their supplies that are used daily. We will also be incorporating art into many of our lessons to make them more hands on and engaging for the students. For this reason, I have requested supplies such as watercolors and paints. We are going to learn about Westward expansion for the bulk of the school year. Our access to computers is limited and therefore I have included a set of comprehension cards that relates to Westward expansion to use as a jumping in point for our unit. Lastly, I have included a mailbox system for the students. Passing papers back can take up a large chunk of our afternoon and having a more organized system will help us take less time passing back papers and will leave more time for learning at the end of the day!
