Every day I have to tell eager students that they are unable to join the band because we do not have enough instruments. I am a music teacher in a socio-economically disadvantaged urban middle school in California with a diverse student population. Our district and school struggles every day to improve test scores in English Language Arts and Math, so music is not a very high priority and is therefore not funded as well as most people would like.
