The focus of this project is to increase the size of our collection. No books will actually be eaten but rather well loved instead. They might as well eat them. THEY LOVE THEM. In our school, students love graphic novels. Currently, we have to cap our students at only one graphic novel per check out because we don't have nearly enough to match the interest. But even more so, we sorely lack enough graphic novels for our youngest readers. This project's collection is targeting preK through 2nd grade students specifically. Some requested titles include The Return of Zita the Spacegirl, Mighty Jack, The Bad Guys, Little Robot, The Flying Beaver Brothers, and Real Friends. My goal as the librarian is to have one of the largest collections of graphic novels ever assembled. As a former classroom teacher I have witnessed countless times how graphic novels can engage readers of all types (not just those marked as "reluctant," or "struggling"), and help build meaningful relationship with reading. Please support this project and give our students the opportunity to eat these graphic novels whole.
