My students need new classroom materials to enhance their imagination. Our schedule provides the students with a long period of free play with classroom materials. During free play, the children love to build structures with our wooden blocks, LEGOs and connecting cubes as well as create sculptures with Play Dough. They are learning how to plan and then create what they have planned. In our classroom, all students are included and encouraged to play together. Since the children have a variety of needs and abilities, we model how everyone can work together and create with the classroom materials. The materials donated with this project will allow the children to use their imaginations in all areas of the classroom. While playing in the block corner, the children can build houses, vehicles, a city, etc. with the Stretch and Connect Builder, Bristle Blocks, Playstix, Design Builders, and Magnetic Pattern Block Builders. These are 3D manipulative that will strengthen the children's fine motor skills by using their hands. The Train Set will add to the children's play while building in the block area. When playing in the water table, the children can explore the alphabet with the Find and Float Alphabet Bubbles as well as build with the Design and Build Water Blocks. Our students love playing at play dough center! By adding the Dough Design Wheels and the Easy-Grip Dough Rollers, their Play Dough creations will be more detailed. The students' imaginations can continue at the art table by adding the Lakeshore Design Rollers and Paint Scrapers when using paint and/or ink pads. The Create a Burger will allow the children to build even while playing in the kitchen/Dramatic Play area! The Following Directions Building Set gives support for children who are just learning to use their imaginations.
