In kindergarten we focus primarily on the importance of listening when learning to read. Phonics First is a big part of our program and it's emphasis is on getting students to listen for the sounds in each letter in order to promote a more fluent reader. A listening center is especially important for kindergarten because they need to learn to hear the speaker and understand what they are saying. Students at this age need to learn to become active listeners and pay close attention to the sounds surrounding them. As a kindergarten teacher, I understand the importance of becoming an active listener at a young age. I believe a listening center will help encourage students to become active listeners in and outside the classroom. Students will use the headphones and audio books in the listening center to reinforce their listening skills. You can help us by donating to this project so my students will have a great listening center to use daily!
