One of the greatest benefits of using technology in the classroom is increased retention rates in students who are at the greatest risk of dropping out. The Alliance for Excellent Education and the Stanford Center for Opportunity Policy in Education (SCOPE) finds that technology can produce significant gains in student achievement and increase engagement, particularly among students most at risk. Several of my students came to school early last year and stayed late in order to access an online tutoring program. Each student who participated showed growth and improved their standardized test scores! Technology also allows students to access a variety of books at all reading levels, which lets my emerging readers feel less self conscious and my advanced readers more options.
