My students need access to a variety of books through our Title 1 campus library so as to develop and enrich a school-wide reading culture. The purpose of the list is to provide students in grades 6, 7, and 8 with a variety of current books for personal reading. Piecing Me Together by Renee Watson and the other books are 13 of the 2018 Lone Star Book List selections. This list is developed by public and school librarians from the Young Adult Round Table and presented by the Texas Library Association. These books are used for the Central Texas Battle of the Books Competition, held each year in March. Each middle school campus may select one team of six (five competitors, one alternate) to compete in this captivating literary contest that draws on text-to-text connections, inferences, spelling, accuracy when citing books, collaboration, cooperation, critical thinking, and communication skills.
