Pre-K students need to be engaged in learning new math concepts through play. We will be exploring sorting, counting, number identification, shapes, measurement, addition and subtraction this year. With these materials, my students can have more STEM activities to do in the classroom! STEM helps the students think abstractly, and become amazing problem solvers. The other math resources will help give my students a hands-on math experience. With the count with my cookie jar, my students can practice their listening skills, and check for understanding. They will also have to practice number recognition. In Pre-K we introduce the students to one-to-one correspondence, and the ice cream scoop is a fun, creative way to have them practice counting one at a time. I will use the Apple dongle to connect my IPAD to our smartboard so the students can play a game with a group and it will display large on our board. Children learn best through play. These games and manipulatives will provide a fun way to engage my pre-k students all while building a strong math foundation. The goal is for students to have positive hands-on experiences to help instill a love of learning about numbers and mathematical operations.
