I am a first-year teacher in a special education learning resource center where students with mild to severe developmental disabilities are served. Our school is in a high poverty neighborhood, where more than 98% of the students qualify for free or reduced-price lunches. Almost 85% of our students are minorities and more than 35% of are transitional bilingual students. Another special education teacher and I meet with small groups all day long, providing services to a total of 42 children. Some groups have as many as 10-12 students, and individuals within the groups have varying needs. We have two antiquated desktop PCs and one tablet computer. By acquiring more tablet computers, we can better implement academic interventions based on student assessments and evaluations.
